Ever since I was a little girl, I craved adventure. I was called a "free little bird", not only because I liked to sing (badly) at the top of my lungs, but because everyone knew I wasn't meant to stay in one place forever. As I grew older, I sought ways to transport myself beyond the bars I felt I was caged within, and create travels and epic quests for myself to keep my mind busy. This resulted in doodles and paintings of faraway places, self-penned novels about women living extraordinary lives, and an insatiable desire to read every book I could get my hands on. Eventually, I found something that changed the course of my life forever.
Flickr.com opened my eyes to a whole new world of young photographers, just like me, who were taking their own creative ideas and turning them into beautiful images. The desire I had to create work like that was overwhelming, and so I picked up my first camera and took some photos of myself in my backyard. The rest, as they say, was history.
Since then, photography has become a passion that has blended seamlessly into all aspects of my life. I spend hours looking and beautiful works of art every day by people that are all over the world and share the same enthusiasm for photography as I do. Some, I have been lucky enough to shoot and create with, and some I still have yet to meet.
My life has been truly blessed by photography, in every way.
Photography allows me to see the world in a more naturalistic light. Through photography, I can see life for what it is, with all of its good and bad, its beauties and its harsh realities. I have seen mountains and valleys, sunrises and sunsets through my lens. I have seen love and I have seen heartache. I have created images that are difficult to look at, and I have also created images that fill my heart with joy. I have taken straight-forward images of landscapes and people, and I have created stories and fantasy worlds that I could only dream of seeing.
Photography is my life, and I know now, more than ever, that that will never change.
So that's me, Whitney. I'm your not-so-typical wandering photographer, with a notebook full of ideas, a backpack ready for adventures, and a heart and mind full of passion for this lifestyle.
I hope you enjoy following along :)
